In addition to an alkaline, plant-based diet, quality supplementation
is also a critical component to an effective anti-cancer nutritional
program.
The following is a list of some of the top
supplements for preventing and fighting most cancers. However, these
supplements should be utilized as part of an overall cancer treatment
protocol.
Also, because some of these supplements may
conflict with each other and/or your medications, you should not take
these supplements simultaneously. In fact, you should work with a
qualified healthcare professional, who has many years of experience
working with these kinds of alternative care products.
Beta glucan
Beta
Glucan is a powerful immune stimulant, activating the macrophages in
your immune system, and enabling them to tag antigens so the immune
system can recognize and attack them. Beta Glucan not only supports the
macrohphage, but B lymphocytes, natural killer cells, and suppressor T
cells as well. Beta Glucan is an effective antioxidant and free radical
scavenger.
Beta-1,3-D-glucan is derived from the cell
walls of Baker's yeast. Beta-1,3-D-glucan actually triggers the immune
response selectively where it starts, at the macrophage. When the
Beta-1,3-D-glucan activates the macrophage it enhances phagocytosis, the
ability of macrophages to engulf and destroy foreign cells and
particles.
Macrophage cells are the very front-line
defense mechanism in our immune systems. When they are properly
activated, we are relatively "immune" to diseases caused by pathogens
such as bacteria, viruses, and other harmful entities ("antigens") in
our bodies. Macrophages actually eat pathogens. When macrophages are not
working properly, diseases can go out of control. Based on studies,
Beta Glucan doubles the percentage of activated macrophages within 24
hours after you take it.
Macrophages are huge cells in
comparison to infectious organisms and other immune system cells. From
the Greek, macro meaning large, and phage meaning to devour or engulf.
This specialized cell is the first line of immune defense and, once
activated creates a chain reactions that results in the mobilization and
amplification of the entire immune system.
A special
receptor site, specific to Beta-1,3-D-glucan exists on the macrophage.
Beta-1,3-D-glucan binds to the receptor site, fully activating the
macrophage. Resembling an angry octopus, the macrophage extends tentacle
like arms, physically pulling in infectious invaders, ingesting and
destroying them with caustic enzymes. Macrophages use an enormous amount
of vitamin C, so you should take a non-acidic or wholefood form of C
(at least 500 mg) daily to maximize effectiveness of Beta Glucan.
Beta Glucan is particularly effective in fighting cancer, in healing wounds, and in improving skin condition.
Immunologists
know that immune cells constantly communicate with one another and with
cells of the brain through the release of immuno-transmitter molecules.
The brain can also communicate with the immune system in positive or
negative fashion using neurotransmitter molecules. Some molecules
function in stimulating both nerve and immune cells.
One immune cell that starts the conversation between your immune fighters is called the macrophage (the original Big Mac
).
This big amoeba-like cell is surrounded by a frilly membraneous lace
that traps foreign microbes such as viruses or mutated cancer cells and
then it gobbles them up. The Big Mac then begins digesting its meal down
to fragments. It attaches these fragments to carrier molecules that
transport the foreign fragment to its body surface and sticks the
fragment out into the blood stream (This is called antigen-presenting).
The
Mac sits in the body waving fragments of the foreign fragments at any
other immune fighter that swims by. Along comes a T cytotoxic cell that
hates to see such a nasty virus or cancer fragment on the surface of a
macrophage. It gives the macrophage a hug, the macrophage gets all
excited and says, "Go and destroy any body cell with this fragment
(antigen) on its surface." The macrophage can’t talk verbally so it
releases an immunotransmitter molecule called interleukin-1 to get its
message across and also presses a number of molecular buttons on the
surface of the T cytotoxic to activate its weaponry systems.
Beta
Glucan is an all natural fiber molecule that scientists all over the
world are researching. In fact Beta Glucan is the most studied natural
immunomodulator on earth.
Medical research doctors are even finding and proving that Beta
Glucan has many benefits, not only helping the immune system, but also
in
combination with certain drugs, doing a better job to overcome cancer
once it has established a foothold in the body. Unfortunately, your
doctor is probably either unaware of this or has decided not to tell
you.
Food sources of glucans are derived from yeast, mushrooms, grains, seaweed. Since glucans can be
isolated from almost every species of yeast, you must be
careful on which one you choose.
Beta Glucan has been
approved as a drug in Japan, Australia, South Korea, and Taiwan as an
immunoadjuvant therapy for cancer for the last 30 years.
There
have thousands of studies
showing this product can protect against infections, lower your
cholesterol, lower blood
sugar, reduce stress, increase your antibody production, heal wounds,
help radiation burns, overcome mercury induced immunosuppression (like
the Thimerosal used as a preservative in vaccines), help with diabetes,
and even naturally prevent metastasis (or the spreading of your cancer).
The key is that the Beta Glucan must be used as part of an overall
cancer nutritional program.
Baking Soda
With
a pH of about 10, sodium bicarbonate’s high alkalinity fights cancer’s
acidity, making baking soda a natural antidote to the acidity of
cancer. Sodium bicarbonate cancer treatment (NaHCO3) can be used
clinically in sterile, intravenous form. This is a liquid, sterile
baking soda.
However, we do not recommend that you
use baking soda as an adjunct therapy at home. This is not suitable for
everybody, and may have repercussions in various organ systems if taken
to excess. We are not advising anyone to do this unless they have been
a patient at our clinic, and we recommend it to specific individuals.
Also, there is risk of aluminum contamination with some available brands
of baking soda, so one must be cautious with this.
An important part of intravenous therapies against cancer is
sterile, pure, intravenous baking soda.
This
therapy was developed by Dr. Simoncini, a medical doctor in Italy who
has done more than anyone to explore the uses of sodium bicarbonate
(baking soda) as an alkaline therapy against cancer. It is known that
cancer creates and favors an acid environment and because of this, Dr.
Simoncini and others have used baking soda as an alkaline therapeutic
agent.

Cod Liver Oil
Remember
taking cod liver oil as a child? (Ugh!) Well, it turns out our parents
were pretty smart! Cod liver oil contains Vitamin A and Vitamin D, two
of the most powerful vitamins that fight cancer and strengthen the
immune system.
Cod liver oil is derived from the liver
of cod fish. As with most fish oils, it has high levels of the omega-3
fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
Cod
liver oil has historically been taken because of its high vitamin A and
vitamin D content. It was once commonly given to children, because
vitamin D has been shown to prevent rickets and other symptoms of
vitamin D deficiency.
Cod liver oil was traditionally
manufactured by filling a wooden barrel with fresh cod livers and
seawater and allowing the mixture to ferment for up to a year before
removing the oil. However, today, cod liver oil is made by cooking the
whole cod body tissues of fatty fish during the manufacture of fish meal
and then heating and processing the oil. Unfortunately, this processing
destroys the valuable vitamins A and D, so synthetic forms of the
vitamins are added back in after the processing is finished.
Therapeutic uses
Cod
liver oil is used for high cholesterol, high triglycerides, kidney
disease in people with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease,
osteoarthritis, depression, an autoimmune disease called systemic lupus
erythematosus (SLE), glaucoma, and middle ear infections (otitis media).
When
taken in appropriate doses by mouth, cod liver oil seems to help lower
high triglycerides (a type of blood fat), lower high blood pressure, and
treat some symptoms of kidney disease related to diabetes. It doesn’t
seem to lower high cholesterol or reduce arthritis pain. Some people put
cod liver oil on their skin to speed wound healing.
Cod
liver oil contains a high amount of vitamin D. A link between vitamin D
and cognitive performance was identified in a study published in the
Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry. The authors
concluded that Vitamin D may play a key role in maintaining good brain
function in old age.
Recent developments on the health benefits of cod liver oil from MNT news
Cod
liver oil is effective at treating tuberculosis. A review of a
historical study from 1848 revealed that cod liver oil could be an
effective treatment option for tuberculosis. The disease was stabilized
in 18% of participants who received cod liver oil, in comparison with
only 6% in the control group.9
Sufferers of Crohn's
Disease may benefit from cod liver oil. A study published in the Journal
of Biological Chemistry found that Vitamin D, readily available in
supplements or cod liver oil, can counter the effects of Crohn's
disease.
Potential health risks of cod liver oil
According
to research published in the American Journal of Cardiology, large
amounts of fish consumption can cause side effects because of
environmental toxins in fish such as mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls,
dioxins, and other contaminants.
The authors said that
"the risks of exposure to environmental toxins and hypervitaminosis
with fish consumption are substantially reduced through purification
processes used to develop selected concentrated fish oil supplements and
prescription preparations."
Therefore, when choosing
fish oil therapies, people should be particularly aware of all available
information to assess the oils' safety, including US Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) or other regulatory labeling.
Nutritional breakdown of cod liver oil (value per 100g):
-- Vitamin A - 100,000 IU
-- Vitamin D - 10,000 IU
-- Saturated fatty acids - 22.608 g
-- Monounsaturated fatty acids - 46.711 g
-- Polyunsaturated fatty acids - 22.541 g
Suggested amount : 1 teaspoon of oil, twice a day. Or 5 x 500mg capsules, twice a day.
Consult your health care practitioner if you have liver or thyroid disease.
Note:
It may be necessary to take with vitamin E to offset possible vitamin A
toxicity and magnesium to counter excessive calcium absorption.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
CoQ10
appears to help ignite the cellular power stations that are necessary
to maintain healthy cells. In other words, CoQ10 works by enhancing
energy at the cellular level. CoQ10 is a natural substance that is
produced by your body. It's highly concentrated in heart muscle cells,
which need all the energy they can get to keep your heart pumping over
one hundred thousand times per day. CoQ10 is an immune system booster
and antioxidant that helps you to avoid getting cancer, and may be
helpful in treating it. It is available in any vitamin store.
Coenzyme
Q10 , known as a healthy heart supplement, is also demonstrating potent
anti-cancer properties. Coenzyme Q10, which is found in all your
cells, provides energy--especially to the heart muscle. That is why it
has become a vital treatment for heart health in recent years.
But now a new series of studies are turning up some even more exciting news. CoQ10 may be able to halt cancer.
Dr.
William Campbell Douglass reports research findings and case histories
in his newsletter Second Opinion that show a correlation between CoQ10
and breast cancer. Low levels of CoQ10 were found in women with breast
cancer. Increased levels were associated with regression and
remission.
Among the studies, Dr. Karl Folkers of the
University of Texas, Austin reports regression of breast cancer, not
only at the original site, but even of cancer that had spread
(metastasized) to the liver—usually a sign of terminal illness. How
were these results achieved? With supplements of CoQ10.
Moreover,
unlike conventional treatment, CoQ10 is completely non-toxic and it
stimulates the immune system, rather than depressing it. In several
studies, CoQ10 worked wonders with patients who had chosen to take
chemotherapy, reducing the toxicity of such treatment. In one study,
patients who were given CoQ10 had little or no toxicity, even though
they were given much larger doses of the toxic chemotherapy agent than
were given to the control group. This inverse correlation is
significant.
Dr. Douglass points out that CoQ10
dissolves in fat and that it is therefore most absorbable in either a
special wafer form (to which some oil has been added) or taken with a
tablespoon of olive oil. Burton Goldberg recommends coconut oil.
Since
CoQ10 has many health benefits, a minimum dose of 50 mg daily is
appropriate for prevention of degenerative diseases, for improved
energy, and for general health If you have cancer, you will want to
increase that dosage dramatically to 400-600 mg daily. But be sure to
discuss large doses with your doctor.
CoQ10 is
naturally manufactured by the body. However, two factors are
significant. First, the amount declines with age. Second, the B vitamins
niacin (B3), folic acid, and pyridoxine (B6) are required for the body
to make this important nutrient. If you are not eating red meat, be sure
that you are taking a good multivitamin and high doses of B complex.
Coenzyme
Q10 (CoQ10) is a substance similar to a vitamin. It is found in every
cell of the body. Your body makes CoQ10, and your cells use it to
produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. It also
functions as an antioxidant, which protects the body from damage caused
by harmful molecules. CoQ10 is naturally present in small amounts in a
wide variety of foods, but levels are particularly high in organ meats
such as heart, liver, and kidney, as well as beef, soy oil, sardines,
mackerel, and peanuts.
Coenzymes help enzymes work to
digest food and perform other body processes, and they help protect the
heart and skeletal muscles.
CoQ10 is available in the
United States as a dietary supplement. It is also known as Q10, vitamin
Q10, ubiquinone, or ubidecarenone.
CoQ10 Therapeutic Uses
Many
claims are made about CoQ10. It is said to help heart failure, as well
as cancer, muscular dystrophy, and periodontal disease. It is also said
to boost energy and speed recovery from exercise. Some people take it to
help reduce the effects certain medicines can have on the heart,
muscles, and other organs.
Heart failure: If you have
heart failure, talk to your doctor before you take any supplement.
There's no strong evidence that vitamins or other supplements can help
treat heart failure. They are used along with medical heart failure
treatments, not instead of treatment.
But you may still
hear about CoQ10 supplements and heart failure. CoQ10 has not been
shown definitely to relieve heart failure symptoms. Only some of the
studies of coenzyme Q10 showed that it helps heart failure symptoms.1
Cancer:
In 1961, scientists saw that people with cancer had little CoQ10 in
their blood. They found low CoQ10 blood levels in people with myeloma,
lymphoma, and cancers of the breast, lung, prostate, pancreas, colon,
kidney, and head and neck. Some research has suggested that CoQ10 helps
the immune system and may be useful as a secondary treatment for cancer.
CoQ10
may keep the antitumor drug doxorubicin from hurting the heart. Three
studies examined the use of CoQ10 along with conventional treatment for
cancer. The three studies contained a total of 41 women with breast
cancer. In each study, the women improved.
But the National Cancer Institute (NCI) rates the strength of the evidence for CoQ10 and cancer as weak.
CoQ10 is a component, along with a
number of cytochromes, of the electron transport carrier system which
shuttles electrons in a handshake fashion along the energy generating
pathway of aerobic metabolism.
CoQ10 strengthens the cardiovascular system, normalizes blood pressure and
augments the immune system. Cancer patients have greater deficiencies of CoQ10,
presumably due to general nutritional deficiencies and particular
shortage of vitamins required for its biosynthesis from the amino acid
phenyalanine.
Ellagic Acid
Ellagic
acid is a natural phenol antioxidant found in numerous fruits and
vegetables. The antiproliferative and antioxidant properties of ellagic
acid have prompted research into its potential health benefits.
The
highest levels of ellagic acid are found in blackberries, cranberries,
pecans, pomegranates, raspberries, strawberries, walnuts, wolfberries,
and grapes. It is also found in peach and other plant foods.
Ellagic
acid is a naturally occurring polyphenolic constituent found in 46
different fruits and nuts, like grapes, pomegranate, red raspberry,
strawberry, blueberry and walnuts.
It appears that
ellagic acid prevents the binding of carcinogens to DNA and strengthens
connective tissue, which may keep cancer cells from spreading. Ellagic
Acid has the ability to inhibit mutations within a cell’s DNA.
Furthermore, it is considered to be a cancer inhibitor which has the
ability to cause apoptosis or normal cell death in cancer cells.
Ellagic Acid Health Benefits:
First, ellagic acid kills cancer cells:
Healthy
cells have a normal life cycle of approximately 120 days before they
die. This process is called apoptosis (natural cell death). The body
replaces these dying cells with healthy cells. Conversely, cancer cells
do not die. They multiply by division, making 2 cancer cells, then 4, 8,
16, 32 and so on. In lab tests, Ellagic Acid caused the cancer cells to
go through the normal apoptosis process without damaging healthy cells.
Chemotherapy, radiation, and most conventional treatments cause the
death of cancer cells and healthy cells indiscriminately, possibly
destroying the immune system in the process.
Second, ellagic acid stops the growth of tumors:
Rats
that consumed 5% to 10% of their diet as freeze-dried black raspberries
and strawberries showed dramatic reductions in the growth of
precancerous cells and tumor progression, the researchers found. And in
other animal tests, Stoner told Reuters Health, the berries reduced
colon cancer growth by 80%. The Ohio Department of Agriculture supported
the research Stoner presented at the meeting.
Third, ellagic acid causes G-arrest:
The
Hollings Cancer Institute at the University of South Carolina has
conducted a double blind study on a group of 500 cervical cancer
patients that had everyone excited. Nine years of study have shown that a
natural product called Ellagic acid is causing G-arrest within 48 hours
(inhibiting and stopping mitosis-cancer cell division), and apoptosis
(normal cell death) within 72 hours, for breast, pancreas, esophageal,
skin, colon and prostate cancer cells.
Fourth, ellagic acid helps prevent cancer, birth defects, etc.
European
medical studies also demonstrate that Ellagic Acid is known to lower
the incidence of birth defects, promote wound healing, reduce heart
disease, and may reduce or reverse chemically induced liver fibrosis.
Fifth, ellagic acid does a lot of other good things:
From
Dr Glen Halvorson’s Book, Chemopreventive Properties of
…Phytochemicals, we learn that ellagic acid is anti-bacterial, [it]
destroys the H. pylori bacteria responsible for stomach ulcers, [it]
protects the liver and liver function, [it] binds with carcinogens
(chemicals that cause cancer) making them inactive, [it] prevents
carcinogens from binding to DNA [and it] reduces glucose levels (aids in
management of diabetes).
http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/cancer1/altthrpy.htm
Sixth,
ellagic acid (i.e. from ellagitannins), is combined with glucose,
making sure that cancer cells get a larger dose of ellagic acid than
normal cells because cancer cells consume about 15 times more glucose
than other cells. This means cancer cells probably get far more ellagic
acid than normal cells:
Although ellagic acid is the
bioactive agent that offers protection, the phytochemical is generally
ingested in the form of another biochemical called ellagitannin. Plants
produce ellagic acid and glucose that combine to form ellagitannins,
which are water-soluble compounds that are easier for animals to absorb
in their diets. Consequently, small amounts of ellagitannins derived
from natural sources may be more effective in the human diet than large
doses of purified ellagic acid.
Here are some comments about blueberries:
Extremely
rich in a wide range of powerful antioxidant flavonoids (phenolic
compounds). Blueberries / bilberries have more anthocyanins than any
other food – 3 times more than the second richest source, green tea.
They are also high in quercetin and ellagic acid – two other powerful
flavonoids.
Flavonoids can also attach themselves to
proteins, modulating the action of enzymes, including the kinase enzymes
necessary for cell proliferation. In this way they are a very useful
compliment to cancer therapy. When high doses of flavonoids are taken,
all cell proliferation is inhibited; but this does not harm normal cells
which can simply ‘rest’ – however, cancer cells cannot survive in the
resting state.
Flavonoids also lower blood sugar
levels, can restrict angiogenesis, help to keep nitric oxide within a
healthy range, and raise the body’s level of the endogenous antioxidant
glutathione. Berries are also rich in vitamin C.
How Ellagic Acid Works:
Ellagic
Acid is a phenolic compound that has become known as a potent
anti-carcinogenic/anti-mutagenic compound. It also has anti-bacterial
and anti-viral properties. Ellagic Acid itself is not thought to be
naturally present in plants. Instead, polymers of gallic acid and
hexahydroxydipenoyl (HHDP) are linked to glucose centers to form the
class of compounds known as ellagitannins. When two gallic acid groups
become linked side by side within a tannin molecule an HHDP group is
formed. Ellagic Acid is the result when the HHDP group is cleaved from
the tannin molecule and spontaneously rearrages. It is the ellagitannins
that are present in red raspberries.
http://www.ellagic-research.org/summary.htm
The following is a list of health benefits published by Dr. Daniel Nixon of the Hollings Cancer Institute:
- Consuming one cup of red raspberries per day (40 mg of
ellagitannins) prevents the development of cancer cells. At low
concentrations, it slows the growth of cancer cells; at higher
concentrations, it tells cancer cells to kill themselves. For example,
cells infected with the human papilloma virus (which is linked to
cervical cancer), when exposed to ellagic acid experienced apoptosis, or
normal cell death.
- Red raspberry ellagitannins slow the growth of abnormal colon cells in humans.
- Tests reveal similar results for breast, pancreas, esophageal, skin,
and prostate cancer cells. The ellagitannins also produce a breakdown
in human leukemia cells.
- Another way that ellagitannins protect your body is through G-Arrest.
G-Arrest means that the ellagitannins stop cells from mutating in the
first place. If cells don't mutate, then we don't get cancer. This is
very important when you understand that that every single day of your
life you produce anywhere from a few hundred to as many as 10,000
cancerous cells in your body as part of your normal metabolism. In tests
conducted by the Hollings Cancer Institute with Ellagic Acid, G-Arrest
began in 72 hours in both breast and cervical cancer.
- Red raspberry ellagitannins prevent destruction of the P53 gene by
cancer cells. P53 prevents mutagenic activity in cervical cells.
- Red raspberry ellagitannins protect human cells against
cancer-causing agents in tobacco smoke, food additives, and
petroleum-based substances. Ellagitannins act as scavengers to “bind”
cancer-causing chemicals, making them inactive. The ellagitannins
inhibit the ability of other chemicals to cause mutations in bacteria.
Red Raspberry ellagitannins also protect DNA by blocking carcinogens
from binding to the DNA.
- European medical studies also demonstrate that red raspberry
ellagitannins lower the incidence of birth defects, promote wound
healing, reduce heart disease, and may reduce or reverse chemically
induced liver fibrosis. In addition, the ellagic acid produced from the
ellagitannins has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties
Note: It is important to understand that
most of the above studies have been conducted in two phases. First, in
test tubes on isolated cells using ellagic acid. Later (and ongoing,
even now) in live human beings using the full ellagitannin complex as
found in red raspberry puree. It is, of course, the human studies that
are of interest to us.
Buyer Beware!:
For those companies selling some form of berry-based ellagitannin
complex and either calling it ellagic acid or claiming that it contains
ellagic acid…don't be fooled. It isn't ellagic acid, and it doesn't
contain any (unless synthetic ellagic acid has been added to the
formula). The fact of the matter is that ellagic acid itself is not
naturally present in plants.
Instead, polymers of gallic acid and
hexahydroxydipenoyl (HHDP) are linked to glucose centers to form the
class of compounds known as ellagitannins. Ellagic acid is formed when
the HHDP group is cleaved from the tannin molecule and spontaneously
rearranges – as happens in the digestive tract.
The bottom line
is that it is the ellagitannins that are present in various fruits – not
the ellagic acid. Again, to quote from the Washington State Red
Raspberry Commission: “ Some articles in which ellagitannins are
quantified refer to ellagic acid because quantitation of ellagitannins
is done by breaking them down into ellagic acid subunits and quantifying
the subunits.” Understand, that when researchers refer to the ellagic
acid content of foods, they are referring to the amount of ellagic acid
that can be derived from a food-based supplement. That's entirely
different than saying the supplement contains ellagic acid.
Why does this matter?
Well, for three reasons:
1. If the company selling the supplement truly doesn't know what's
in the product they're selling, why would you want to buy from that
company in the first place?
2. If they do know, and they're willing to be “inaccurate” for
“marketing purposes,” doesn't that call into question everything else
they say?
3. And finally, if you understand that it's really the ellagitannins
that you're after (and not the ellagic acid), then you realize that
the source of your ellagitannins is vital – since the source will determine the exact mix of ellagitannins and how effective that mix is.
The bottom line is you don't want to buy your
supplements from a company that doesn't have a clue about what they're
selling. Look for a company that uses accurate literature and labeling.
Garlic Extract
Aged garlic extract (AGE) is a concentrated form
of organic garlic, that has been shown in over 350 scientific studies to
be safe and effective in providing health benefits in humans.
AGE has
been found to help prevent atherosclerosis and protect against
cardiovascular disease, increase circulation and immunity; in
preclinical studies AGE has been shown to prevent various kinds of
cancer and neurodegenrative disease and to have anti-aging effects in
improving memory, endurance and learning; and, new data also shows that
AGE has potential as an adjuvant in cancer therapy.
AGE is produced by
extracting and aging organic fresh garlic at room temperature for 20
months. By combining this extraction/aging process, the antioxidant
levels in the extract become higher than those in fresh. The process
also converts garlic's more unstable substances, which are generally not
available to the body, such as its odor-generating compound oxidant
allicin, to more stable, bioavailable, and health-promoting substances.
Garlic aged in this way contains stable water-soluble sulfur substances,
including S-allyl mercaptocysteine (SAMC) and S-allyl cysteine (SAC),
which are powerful antioxidants and have high bioavailability with 98
percent absorption into the blood.
AGE boosts immunity more
effectively than fresh garlic, enhancing immune cell numbers and
activity, improving specific immune actions in AIDS patients, and
increasing the activity of natural killer (NK) cells, which destroy
invading organisms and cancer cells.
In a three-week clinical
study, subjects ingesting 1800 mg of aged garlic increased NK cell
activity by 155.5 percent, while those receiving 35 grams of fresh
garlic per day (the equivalent of 10 cloves) had a 139.9 percent
increase, indicating superior immune-enhancing benefits. A study with
AIDS patients showed that NK cells, depleted by AIDS, rose to normal
levels after six weeks of supplementation with the aged garlic.
Aged
garlic is anti-fungal, preventing the growth of Candida albicans, the
cause of infections in HIV-positive patients and in sexually transmitted
conditions. AGE also kills Helicobacter pylori (H-pylori), the bacteria
linked to stomach ulcers and cancer and is resistant to antibiotic
treatment in 84 percent of infected individuals.
Garlic has potent anti-cancer effects, reducing the risk of
human stomach, colon, and prostate cancer. In pre-clinical studies, AGE
prevented cancers of the mammary glands, bladder, colon, stomach, liver,
lung, and esophagus. The anti-cancer effects include eliminating toxic
ROS, increasing glutathione, preventing carcinogens binding to DNA, and
increasing carcinogens disposal.
The
water-soluble SAMC, which is unique to AGE due to the aging process, may
help in cancer therapy. SAMC and SAC stop human prostate cancer cell
growth by 80 percent as it lowers testosterone levels needed for their
growth and reduces PSA, the prostate cancer marker. SAMC prevents the
growth of breast cancer cells and inhibits colon cancer cell growth by
71 percent, inducing cell suicide (apoptosis).
Graviola
Graviola,
also called Brazilian pawpaw, soursop, and guanaba, in addition to
numerous other names, refers to a particular tree or its fruit. The
fruit is green and heart shaped, and about six to eight inches
(15.24-20.32 cm) in diameter. The tree is found in South America and on
numerous tropical islands and grows best in rainforest climates.
The
pulp of the fruit is popular in juices, sherbets, and smoothies, and
exhibits notes of tangy and sweet. It can also be peeled and eaten,
though some find the taste alone too sour. As a fruit, graviola may not
prove exceptional, but it certainly has an extended history of use in
ancient and now modern herbal remedies.
In early times,
the leaves of this tree were used for tea to reduce swelling of the
mucus membranes (catarrh) or to treat liver disease. The black seeds
were often crushed and used as a vermifuge. All parts of the tree might
be ground and used as a sedative or as an anti-convulsant. The fruit was
used to reduce joint pain, to treat heart conditions, as a sedative, to
induce labor, or to reduce coughing or flu symptoms.
In
modern times, graviola has proven interesting to medical researchers
because it contains chemicals called annonaceous acetogenins. These
chemicals have been shown to have cytotoxic properties; in other words,
they tend to attack cancer cells. Also these compounds may be a helpful
insecticide, and several prominent universities like Purdue have
patented their studies and work with graviola components, since they may
later prove so useful.
Though the Food and Drug
Administration may ultimately patent graviola or approve it as a
prescribed medication for cancer treatment, studies are still early, and
reveal some possible alarming side effects. Many websites on the
subject, especially those selling the product as a nutritional
supplement, say it has no side effects, as compared to cancer drugs.
Certainly it may not cause hair loss, but known side effects exist and
should be weighed carefully.
First, graviola can be an
emetic. A large dose may make some people throw up, which makes it not
that much different than standard chemotherapy. Second, it has a known
depressant effect on the cardiovascular system and should be avoided by
people with heart conditions or people taking medications for blood
pressure or cardiac problems. Third, it can stimulate uterine
contractions and should never be taken by pregnant women.
Another
side effect is potential interaction with antidepressants. Graviola may
also have antimicrobial properties, which kill off beneficial bacterial
on the skin, in the vagina and in the gut. Long-term use can lead to
yeast and fungal infections. The chemicals present in the fruit have
also been found present in people with atypical Parkinson’s disease,
though no cause and effect relationship has been firmly established.
While
graviola retailers may claim the fruit and plant parts are completely
safe in therapeutic dosing, the Food and Drug Administration have not
yet evaluated these statements, since this product is viewed as a
nutritional supplement. While the plant components have all been used in
native medicines, it remains questionable whether it is actually
beneficial. At the very least, it should always be used under the
supervision of a physician.
Note: Most of the new
technology cancer treatments including electromedicine or nutritional
protocols may neutalize this protocol. The reason is that several of the newer
protocols kill microbes inside the cancer cells. When they kill the
microbes inside the cancer cells, they allow more of the glucose to be
converted to pyruvate and thus more ATP energy is created inside the
cancer cells.
Green Tea
Both
black and green teas contain numerous active ingredients, including
polyphenols and flavonoids, which are potent antioxidants.
One
class of flavonoids called catechins has recently become the focus of
widespread study for their anti-cancer potential. Tea is the best source
of catechins in the human diet, and green tea contains about three
times the quantity of catechins found in black tea.
Epidemiological
observations have shown that people in green-tea consuming countries –
mainly Japan and China – have very low rates of cancer. In Japan, the
women who teach the tea ceremony, and thus drink more than the average
amount of extra-strong green tea, are noted for their very low mortality
rate and longevity; deaths from cancer are especially rare in this
group.
The rates of breast, colon, skin, pancreatic,
esophageal and stomach cancer have been found to be lower among drinkers
of green tea. If those who consumed more than ten cups of green tea a
day got cancer, it was at considerably older age, especially in women.
Likewise, it has been noted that those Japanese smokers who consume a
lot of green tea seem to enjoy protection against lung cancer. In fact,
the Japanese have both the highest smoking rate and the lowest lung
cancer rate in the industrialized world.
Research aimed
at finding the active compounds in green tea revealed that its
protective effects are due chiefly to catechins. Powerful polyphenolic
antioxidants, catechins are astringent, water-soluble compounds that can
be easily oxidized. They are a subgroup of flavonoids, weak
phytoestrogenic compounds widely available in vegetables, fruit, tea,
coffee, chocolate and wine. The antioxidant potential of both green and
black teas, as measured by the Phenol Antioxidant Index, was found to be
significantly higher than that of grape juice and red wines.
Green
tea is manufactured from fresh, unfermented tea leaves; the oxidation
of catechins is minimal, and hence they are able to serve as
antioxidants. While the fermentation of tea leaves needed for the
production of black tea produces some unique antioxidants such as
theaflavins, bisflavonols and thearubigens (polymers of simple
polyphenols), such fermentation reduces the catechin content, especially
the strongly bioactive catechin called epigallocatechin gallate.
Epigallocatechin gallate has been singled out by many researchers as
particularly important for cancer prevention.
So far,
most research has been done on green tea and the activity of its various
catechin components; the research on complex polymeric polyphenols
found in black tea is still in an early stage.
Numerous
recent studies continue to confirm that green tea polyphenols have
powerful anticarcinogenic, cardioprotective, neuroprotective and
antimicrobial actions. In the first of the two articles on green tea,
let us take a closer look at the anticarcinogenic properties of green
tea.
The latest good news about green tea comes from a
study done at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. A team of
researchers headed by Dr. Yihai Cao found that green tea can block
angiogenesis – the development of new blood vessels that tumors need in
order to grow and metastasize. The authors gave mice the equivalent of
two-to-three cups of green tea a day. When lung cancer was induced, the
mice supplemented with green tea showed significantly less tumor growth.
The scientists found that green tea suppressed the development of new
blood vessels and prevented metastasis. They hypothesize the
epigallocatechin gallate is the compound responsible for the suppression
of angiogenesis.
In an interview, Dr. Cao explained
that all solid tumors depend on angiogenesis for their growth. If green
tea polyphenols can prevent angiogenesis, then this would go a long way
toward explaining why green tea is effective in preventing so many kinds
of cancer. Dr. Cao stressed that it takes long-term consumption of
green tea in order to obtain these chemopreventive benefits.
Green
tea has also been shown to help prevent metastasis. Cancer cells
secrete special enzymes called collagenases in order to penetrate and
colonize various tissues. It is the metastatic process that is lethal,
not the primary tumor. Hence finding substances that can prevent
metastasis is of prime importance in fighting cancer. A study done at
the University of Shizuoka in Japan found that epigallocatechin gallate
does in fact inhibit the secretion of collagenases by tumor cells (in
this study, highly metastatic lung cancer cells), thus arresting their
ability to invade normal tissue. Black tea theaflavins were also
effective. There is also additional evidence that green tea polyphenols
help inhibit angiogenesis, or the growth of new blood vessels that
nourish the tumor.
Two of the green tea polyphenols,
epigallocatechin-3-gallate and epicatechin-3-gallate, have been found to
be effective inhibitors of 5 alpha-reductase type I, reducing the
synthesis of DHT, a potent form of testosterone implicated in causing
prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Epigallocatechin gallate has
also been found to be the most potent catechin in inducing apoptosis in
human prostate cancer cells when tested on various cell lines. Together
with lycopene and selenium, green tea should be considered as a special
prostate-protective agent.
One interesting recent study
compared the effects of epigallocatechin gallate, curcumin (a powerful
anticarcinogenic compound from the curry spice turmeric), and the
combination of both on an in-vitro model of oral cancer. It was found
that epigallocatechin gallate helped arrest tumor cell growth in a
different cell-cycle stage than curcumin. When the two compounds were
combined, growth inhibition was enhanced, suggesting a synergistic
effect.
Green tea catechins are among the phenolic
compounds known to suppress the formation of heterocyclic amines and
nitrosamines, known to be potent carcinogens. Nitrosamines have been
tentatively linked to brain cancer and leukemia. Drinking green tea with
or after a meal containing meat cooked at a high temperature or treated
with nitrites (a meat ‘preserver’) seems to offer a degree of
protection.
Many other carcinogens are likewise
rendered less harmful thanks to the action of green tea polyphenols on
inducing enzymes that detoxify various undesirable compounds, and
inhibiting those enzymes that would make certain carcinogens bioactive.
Glucuronization (conjugation with glucuronic acid) is another
detoxifying mechanism that is enhanced by catechins.
It
has been also postulated that green tea catechins inhibit the
activation of protein kinase C, and interfere with the binding of growth
factors to their receptors. (In the case of breast cancer, catechins
were in fact shown to interfere with the binding of estrogen to estrogen
receptors.) Catechins were also found to inhibit the release of tumor
necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), a highly inflammatory cytokine, and
of nitric oxide synthase, an enzyme necessary for the production of
nitric oxide (nitric oxide plays an important role in inflammation and
carcinogenesis).
A particularly exciting study, done at
the Cancer Chemotherapy Center in Tokyo, Japan, and using leukemia and
colon cancer cell cultures, demonstrated that “epigallocatechin gallate
strongly and directly inhibits telomerase.” Telomerase is the enzyme
that “immortalizes” cancer cells by maintaining the end portions of the
tumor cell chromosomes. Even in the presence of non-toxic concentrations
of epigallocatechin gallate, cancer cells exhibited telomere shortening
and senescence. Thus, inhibition of telomerase could be one of the main
anticarcinogenic mechanisms of catechins.
Obviously,
the anti-cancer mechanisms of green tea polyphenols are complex, and not
yet completely understood. Research at the level of molecular genetics
is particularly promising. We already do know enough to state with
certainty that green tea is an effective chemopreventive agent. And we
also know that it is best to use several anti-cancer agents (including
all the major antioxidants) for synergistic prevention along all the
possible pathways. Green tea works along so many pathways that it is
simply an indispensable part of any serious cancer-prevention program.
Note: Very high amounts of green tea components (usually associated with
overdosage of green tea supplements) have been shown to interact with
drugs that affect blood clotting such as aspirin and change the way the
body metabolizes certain medications.
Lactoferrin
Lactoferrin triggers the production of glutathione and activates the innate immune system cells like the
macrophages, neutrophils and T-cells. These are the first line of
defense against harmful pathogens – including cancer cells.
Cancer cells have a highly negative
membrane charge which attracts lactoferrin, while healthy normal cells
have a neutral charge. Lactoferrin is attracted to the cancer cells,
attaches to them and triggers a process that kills the cancer cell; as
well as blocking angiogenesis – the growth of blood vessels that feed
cancer cells.
Another
key to lactoferrin’s cancer-fighting properties is its amazing ability
to bind with iron. It forms a bond with iron that’s 100 times stronger
than transferrin – your body’s major iron transport protein. Several
studies suggest that excessive amounts of iron, in your diet, increase
your risk of developing certain types of cancer. Researchers have shown
that many chronic diseases – in particular, cancer – need iron to
reproduce and grow.
Limu Juice
Limu
juice is an extract of seaweed. It is used as a food supplement and is
also an effective alternative cancer treatment. It has been observed to
safely kill cancer cells especially when consumed in the recommended
doses of about half a pint per day. The dose is most effective if it is
divided into small amounts and taken throughout the day.
The
word Limu means algae in Hawaiian. It was used for a long time to
season some traditional foods that were not particularly tasty on their
own. The Limu that is now useful for nutritional and medicinal purposes
is extracted from specific strains of brown seaweed.
It
had always been observed that coastal communities particularly those in
the oriental countries such as Japan, tended to have the highest life
expectancy in the world. Part of this longevity can be attributed to a
steady consumption of a diet containing brown seaweed. After years of
research, it was discovered that the active ingredient in Limu is a
compound known as Fucoidan which is basically a sulfated polysaccharide.
Useful amounts of Fucoidan are found in particular brown seaweed known
as Limu Moui which is plentiful around the islands of Tonga. Limu can
also be extracted from many other types of seaweed but in less
quantities.
Many people often wonder,” what is Limu
Juice used for?” Those who have researched on alternative cancer
treatment will most likely have heard of Limu, or maybe Fucoidan which
is the active ingredient in Limu juice. Limu juice is a rejuvenating
remedy which is useful in revamping good cells in the body while
destroying cancerous ones. It is one of the few interventions that can
be attempted in a stage IV cancer patient. Being a nutritional
supplement, Limu juice can be used alongside chemotherapy or any other
treatment without any severe reactions or side effects.
What
is Limu Juice, is it a nutritional supplement or a drug? The truth is
that it is a bit of both. It is a drug in that it can be used to treat
cancer with good results. It is also a supplement in that it is often
consumed in a relatively raw form. As a form food, Limu juice contains
many more nutrients in addition to Fucoidan and has been seen to have
overall health benefits to people who have it regularly in their diets.
The helplessness with which stage IV cancer patients find themselves in
makes Limu juice an alternative worth considering.
What
is Limu juice significance in the fight against cancer? Limu juice is
extremely important because it has been proven to kill cancer cells. In
addition, it does not interfere with any other treatment that one may be
undergoing. This new awareness has also brought attention to shortages
in the juice. This can largely be attributed to pollution and human
encroachment on the wetlands where the brown seaweeds propagate. The
weeds require an environment where brackish water enters the sea. These
waters are drying up due to climate change and also changing in their
composition due to the introduction of affluent waste.
The
Limu Company has figured out a way to extract the Fucoidan from the
Limu Moui Brown Seaweed and bottle it along with some other natural
plant extracts to give us the best Limu products on the planet. If you
would like to know more about the Limu Original product or the other
products;
Limu juice is a natural product from the sea.
It is a special kind of seaweed. However, because people generally do
not like the taste of seaweed by itself, Limu juice is generally mixed
(by the vendor) with fruit and vegetable juices to mask the taste of
seaweed (that is a wise thing to do).
The anti-cancer
effect of fucoidan is well proven and has been the focus of many, many
scientific studies which are published on PubMed. Fucoidan safely kills
cancer cells and does not harm non-cancerous cells.
Limu
juice has cured many cases of cancer by itself, but it is recommended,
by this website, to be used in conjunction with other “Stage IV”
protocols as a “supplemental” protocol.
This protocol
can be used in conjunction with chemotherapy for those inclined to take
chemo. In fact, this product may significantly reduce the side-effects
of the chemotherapy.
Moringa oleifera
Moringa
oleifera is a tree that is sometimes called the Tree of Life or a
Miracle Tree, but rather than this being in reference to its potential
medicinal usage this is actually referring to how it is a very valuable
food crop (it is drought resistant, grows very fast, and is highly
nutritive) and even beyond food it serves many benefits in third world
countries such as having an ability to be used for some crafts (due to
being a tree) and cleaning water.
Moringa is used for
“tired blood” (anemia); arthritis and other joint pain (rheumatism);
asthma; cancer; constipation; diabetes; diarrhea; epilepsy; stomach
pain; stomach and intestinal ulcers; intestinal spasms; headache; heart
problems; high blood pressure; kidney stones; fluid retention; thyroid
disorders; and bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic infections.
Moringa
is also used to reduce swelling, increase sex drive (as an
aphrodisiac), prevent pregnancy, boost the immune system, and increase
breast milk production. Some people use it as a nutritional supplement
or tonic.
Moringa is sometimes applied directly to the
skin as a germ-killer or drying agent (astringent). It is also used
topically for treating pockets of infection (abscesses), athlete’s foot,
dandruff, gum disease (gingivitis), snakebites, warts, and wounds.
Different parts of
this plant contain a profile of important minerals, and are a good
source of protein, vitamins, beta-carotene, amino acids and various
phenolics. The Moringa plant provides a rich and rare combination of
zeatin, quercetin, beta-sitosterol, caffeoylquinic acid and kaempferol.
In addition to its compelling water purifying powers and high
nutritional value, M. oleifera is very important for its medicinal
value. Various parts of this plant such as the leaves, roots, seed,
bark, fruit, flowers and immature pods act as cardiac and circulatory
stimulants, possess antitumor, antipyretic, antiepileptic,
antiinflammatory, antiulcer, antispasmodic, diuretic, antihypertensive,
cholesterol lowering, antioxidant, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective,
antibacterial and antifungal activities.
Moringa
oleifera provides a rare combination of zeatin (a potent antioxidant),
quercetin (a flavonoid known for its ability to neutralize free radicals
and relieve inflammation), beta-sitosterol (a nutrient superstar that
blocks cholesterol formation or build-up and is an anti-inflammatory
agent for the body), caffeoylquinic acid (another powerful
anti-inflammatory compound), and kaempferol (a key nutrient that
promotes healthy body cellular function).
All in all,
enzymatically active and bioavailable Moringa oleifera provides 36
natural anti-inflammatory agents. Free radical damage caused by
electron-seeking, highly reactive, oxidative molecules has been
identified as the source of many maladies through mechanisms such as
inhibition of telomerase, changes to cellular permeability and DNA
damage. It has been established that Moringa oleifera contains 46
different antioxidants.
Moringa oleifera has been shown
to be anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and antibiotic, which
will certainly lighten the load on the immune system. In addition,
Moringa oleifera demonstrates the ability to be a potent detoxifying
agent
Amazingly, the leaves of this extraordinary tree
contain 7 times the vitamin C found in oranges, 4 times the calcium in
milk, 4 times the vitamin A in carrots, 2 times the protein of yogurt,
25 times the iron in spinach, and 3 times the potassium in bananas.
MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane)
Lactic
acid is the main component of the deadly cachexia cycle (i.e. lactic
acid cycle), which kills about half of all cancer patients. Lactic acid
is a major cause of pain, it blocks nutrients from getting to the cancer
cells (which is why many cancer patients are weak), and so on.
Dealing with the lactic acid and the microbes in the bloodstream should be a
top priority from day one after the diagnoses of the cancer!! But, orthodox medicine never does this.
There are several ways to deal with the deadly cachexia cycle:
1. Remove lactic acid from the bloodstream, thus the lactic acid cannot get to the liver and the cycle is blocked.
2. Hydrazine sulphate blocks the conversion of lactic acid into glucose in the liver, which stops the cycle.
3. Anything that kills cancer cells helps block the cycle (less cancer cells means less lactic acid),
4. Anything that reverts cancer cells into normal cells also helps block the cycle.
MSM protocols deal with items #1 and #4.
Lactic
acid, in addition to making the cancer patients weak, can cause massive
pain and can therefore reduce the “will to live” of the patient!!
Fighting
cancer is like fighting a raging fire. The fire wants to spread and the
firemen want to stop the fire. Clearly, lactic acid and the microbes in
the bloodstream are major players in feeding the fire!!
There
are actually several reasons MSM (methyl sulfonyl methane) is used in
natural cancer treatments or alternative cancer treatments.
First
and foremost is to clean the bloodstream of lactic acid. Lactic acid is
in the bloodstream because cancer cells create lactic acid from glucose
and shove the lactic acid into the bloodstream.
The
lactic acid travels from the cancer cells, through the bloodstream to
the liver. The liver converts lactic acid into glucose. The glucose then
travels back to the cancer cells, where the cancer cells again create
lactic acid from glucose.
This “cycle” (cancer cells
convert glucose to lactic acid and the liver converts lactic acid into
glucose) is called the “cachexia cycle” or “lactic acid cycle.” The
cachexia cycle kills about 40% or more of all cancer patients, depending
on how you count what kills cancer patients.
Because
MSM can help flush lactic acid out of the bloodstream, MSM can
essentially block the lactic acid from getting to the liver. Thus, MSM
can help block the cachexia cycle.
But also remember
that lactic acid blocks key nutrients from getting to the cells. MSM
also allows nutrients to get to the cells.
The main reason cancer patients are weak is because lactic acid blocks the nutrients they take from getting to the cells!!
A
product used by body builders, D-Ribose, is also highly recommended for
cancer patients because D-Ribose (and Vitamin C) can get past the
lactic acid blockade and get inside the healthy cells to give them
energy. This happens immediately, whereas MSM takes time.
But this is only one purpose for taking MSM.
A
second purpose is to get “microbe-killing” substances inside of cancer
cells. MSM should always be combined with a microbe killing substance
(e.g. Vitamin C) and MSM is used to get this microbe-killing substance
inside the cancer cells.
MSM (or DMSO because some MSM
converts into DMSO in the bloodstream) essentially “opens the ports” on
the cancer cells so microbe killing substances (such as Vitamin C,
colloidal silver, chlorine dioxide, etc.) can more easily get inside the
cancer cells to kill the microbes.
MSM and DMSO
MSM
is a form of nutritional sulfur derived from DMSO – dimethylsulfoxide.
DMSO has been known since the 50’s, and was discovered in huge
quantities as a byproduct of the paper industry.
DMSO
and MSM start life by being released in the oceans by microscopic plants
and plankton in the form of a sulfur compounds called dimethylsulfonium
salts. Ocean water transforms the salts into dimethylsulfide (DMS). It
quickly evaporates and rises high into the atmosphere where ozone and
ultraviolet light transform it into MSM and DMSO which return to the
earth in rain and are absorbed into the root systems of plants.
DMSO
is a powerful solvent that penetrates through skin and meat all the way
to the bone. The nutritional sulfur in DMSO, MSM, is the main
ingredient that allows this penetration. It has been used by athletes
for years because it eases the pain of sore muscles.
Dr
Stanley Jacobs developed the process of extracting the white, odorless,
nearly tasteless crystal MSM from DMSO at Oregon Health Sciences
University. He was granted patent no. 5569970 for its use as a nasal
spray that prevents snoring, and several other patents for health
benefits. MSM allows cell walls to be more permeable and flexible so
that they take in nutrients and give off toxins more easily. Along with
water and salt, MSM is the most plentiful chemical compound in the body.
It is absolutely essential to body growth and self-healing.
When
old cells die and are replaced by new cells, the new ones will be
shriveled, wrinkled, and leathery if insufficient MSM is in the body.
MSM is best aided by vitamin C in doing its work.
We
are all deficient in MSM because of our diets. The best natural sources
of MSM are fresh rainwater, milk, and fresh fruits and vegetables. MSM
is the first thing to evaporate out of them when they are harvested,
boiled, pastuerized, or allowed to sit. MSM is non-toxic in quantities
of up to 10 grams per 100 pounds of body weight (and perhaps beyond).
MSM
has been proven in lab tests to cure snoring and lupus, to relieve
arthritis, and to significantly lengthen the lives of cancer victims. It
has been shown to improve eyesight when used as eyedrops, to "melt
away" scar tissue in burn victims, to improve breathing in emphysema
victims, to strengthen hair and nails dramatically, to rejuvenate
wrinkled skin, and to ward off allergies and heal bee stings. It is
essential in rebuilding the body’s connective tissue and collagen, a
quality that is much needed in cancer victims.
Refer to the MSM Protocols on the Cancer Tutor website for more details.

Noni Juice
Noni juice
contains many cancer fighting nutrients. It kills cancer
cells (the anthraquinone damnacanthal and the trace element selenium), it stops the spread of cancer (beta sitosterol,
noni-ppt and limonene), it stimulates the white blood cells and other
parts of the immune system (polysaccharides) and takes part in a process
that enlarges cell membranes so they can better absorb nutrients
(proxeronine aids in creating xeronine). And this is only a partial
list!
Note: There
is a wide variety of brands with different levels of quality and
cancer-fighting abilities -- so, be careful. Look for "Tahitian Noni
Juice" and if you buy it, request at least a 30-day money-back
guarantee.
Warning:
High doses of this product may, in rare cases, contribute to liver
damage. And, since many cancer patients have liver damage (usually due
to chemotherapy), you should avoid this product if you have liver
damage. Otherwise, limit your intake to 3 ounces a day.
Omega-3 EFAs
Omega-3
EFAs are well-known for their benefit to the cardiovascular system and
for brain health. Fish oils are particularly effective in reducing
inflammation and can be
of great benefit to people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or
ulcerative colitis.
Daily supplementation with as little as 2.7 grams of
EPA and 1.8 grams of DHA can markedly reduce the number of tender
joints and increase the time before fatigue sets in. Some studies have
also noted a decrease in morning stiffness and at least two clinical
trials concluded that arthritis patients who took fish oils could
eliminate or sharply reduce their use of NSAIDs and other arthritis
drugs.
Pancreatic Systemic Enzymes
The
use of enzymes to treat cancer has its roots all the way back to 1911
with John Beard's The Enzyme Treatment of Cancer and Its Scientific
Basis. Beard believed cancer was a result of diminished pancreatic
enzymes, impairing your immune response.
A study in 1999 suggests he may have been right on target.
Ten
patients with inoperable pancreatic cancer were treated with large
doses of oral pancreatic enzymes (along with detoxification and an
organic diet), and their survival rates were 3 to 4 times higher than
patients receiving conventional treatment. Proteolytic enzymes can be
helpful in treating cancer because they help restore balance to your
immune system.
Dr. Nick Gonzalez in New York City, NY
has also done a lot of work on enzymes in cancer treatment and has
written a book on the subject.
Some of the ways proteolytic enzymes can be helpful in the fight against cancer are:
Boosting cytokines, particularly interferon and tumor necrosis factor,
which are very important warriors in destroying cancer cells.
Decreasing inflammation.
Dissolving fibrin: Cancer cells hide under a cloak of fibrin to escape
detection. Once the cancer cells are "uncloaked," they can be spotted
and attacked by your immune system. It is also thought that fibrin makes
cancer cells "stick together," which increases the chance for
metastases.
German studies have shown that systemic enzymes increase the potency of macrophages and killer cells 12-fold.
Generally,
the first immune system building product that is mentioned in
alternative cancer treatment circles are the pancreatic enzymes: trypsin
and chymotrypsin. That is interesting because these enzymes do not
build the immune system, but they do “clear the way” for the immune
system to do its job.
Digestive enzymes-also called
pancreatic enzymes include three classes: proteolytic enzymes needed to
digest protein, lipases needed to digest fat, and amylases needed to
digest carbohydrates. In several conditions that cause malabsorption,
such as pancreatic insufficiency and cystic fibrosis, doctors sometimes
prescribe digestive enzymes to improve absorption of food.”
It
is the proteolytic enzymes (i.e. proteases) that we are interested in
here, and particularly trypsin and chymotrypsin. When they are done
digesting the meat in the digestive tract (of course it is hoped that
there is no meat in the digestive tract because virtually all cancer
diets forbid meat, largely for this reason), they start to clear the
proteins that surround cancer cells and clear the way for the immune
system to kill the cancer cells.
Some of the cancer
diets that are immune system building treatments are good, but not
great. A great cancer diet such as a “raw food diet is great because it
focuses on foods that are known to kill cancer cells and build the
immune system.
The pancreatic enzymes can also be
purchased in supplement form. When buying such a product, make sure it
has high dosages of trypsin and especially chymotrypsin.
Another
proteolytic enzyme that has seen exceptional results in treating cancer
is bromelain. This enzyme comes from pineapples and is a major
ingredient in a raw food vegetable drink which includes whole
pineapples. Bromelain can restore macrophage levels. This can also be
found in supplement form.
A fourth cancer-treating proteolytic enzyme is papain.
Boosting Your Enzyme Levels Naturally
There are 4 ways to increase your enzyme levels:
Increase your intake of raw, living foods
Eat fewer calories
Chew your food thoroughly
Avoid chewing gum
The
very best way to get enzymes into your body is by consuming at least 75
percent of your foods raw. For many of you, you'll have to work toward
this goal gradually.
While all raw foods contain
enzymes, the most powerful enzyme-rich foods are those that are sprouted
(seeds and legumes). Sprouting increases the enzyme content in these
foods tremendously. Besides sprouts, other enzyme-rich foods include:
Papaya, pineapple, mango, kiwi, and grapes
Avocado
Raw honey (the enzymes actually come from the bee's saliva)
Bee pollen
Extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil
The
best way to bump up your metabolic enzymes is to provide your body with
the raw materials and energy it needs to make them. By eating these
types of foods, you supply your body with the amino acids and the enzyme
co-factors needed to boost your own natural enzyme production.
Another
way to lower your body's demand for enzymes is to reduce your caloric
intake. Did you know the average person spends 80 percent of his
available energy simply digesting food?
By reducing
overall consumption, as well as introducing more living foods, you
reduce your need for digestive enzymes, which allows your body to put
more of its energy into producing metabolic enzymes.
Which
brings us to chewing. Quite apart from the esthetic pleasure of an
unhurried meal, there are important physiological reasons to chew your
food well.
Chewing stimulates saliva production, and
the more time you spend chewing, the longer your saliva enzymes have to
work in your mouth, lessening the workload of your stomach and small
intestine. Chewing also stimulates a reflex that sends a message to your
pancreas and other digestive organs, "Gear up—we've got incoming!"
And
don't chew gum. Chewing gum fools your body into believing it is
digesting something, so it pumps out digestive enzymes unnecessarily.
Why waste those precious resources?
Paw Paw
A supplemental extract from the paw paw paw fruit is a rich source of substances known as acetogenins, which were found to drastically reduce the ATP
production of the cells' mitochondria. Acetogenins modulate/reduce the production of cellular energy (ATP),
thus robbing the cancer cells of the energy it needs to survive and
grow.
Some companies have produced products using graviola (a biological
cousin of the paw paw) and market them as similar to--or equal to--paw
paw itself. However, Dr. McLaughlin showed this to be false. He has
written several technical papers detailing the big difference chemically
and structurally between the acetogenins found in graviola and those
found in paw paw. Thus, it is important for anyone
contemplating using the paw paw treatment to be sure that a standardized
extract from the Asimina triloba tree is obtained--not graviola,
since graviola is far less potent due to its chemical structure.
Poly MVA
Poly MVA is a promising nutritional supplement of minerals, vitamins and amino acids
designed to support cellular energy production and assist in boosting immune response and support healing damaged cells.
It is a patented combination of Palladium (a mineral) bonded with
alpha-lipoic acid (a very powerful antioxidant) and also contains a
combination of vitamins, minerals and amino acids including Vitamins B1, B2 and B12, Formylmethionine, N-Acetyl Cystiene, and trace amounts of Molybdenum, Rhodium, and Ruthenium.
According to the inventor of Poly MVA, Merrill Garnett, DDS, PHD, cancer results from the failure of cells to mature. This in turn is caused by a problem of energetics in the cell's metabolic processes. This compound assists in correcting nucleic acids in the DNA of genes. It has a negative effect on anaerobic cells (those that produce energy without using oxygen, i.e. cancer cells).
Lipoic Acid Mineral
Complex (the complex inside of Poly-MVA) is a redox molecule (this means
it can accept electrical charge and donate that charge, which makes it
an extremely effective energy-transferring molecule) that facilitates
energy charge transfer at the cellular level. This means it can safely
and effectively protect cells and provide energy to them.
Many years of
research and clinical studies provide consistent and ongoing evidence
that Poly-MVA can support gene repair (in genes damaged by cancer),
various therapies and degeneration because of its mitochondrial
up-regulation with increased oxygen. Once inside the cell, Poly-MVA
supports normal energy production of ATP via the Krebs cycle and its
oxygen pathways. This interferes with the particular energy metabolism
of the (anaerobic) cancer cell by targeting the mitochondria which
allows for a change in the cell properties.
Multiple studies have shown Poly-MVA’s effectiveness in many
different cancer cell lines, with no harm occurring in normal cells. The
benefit from the increase in oxygen and ATP is support for normal
cellular function in all other cells. The alpha lipoic acid
and minerals are irreversibly bound together, resulting in a molecule
that is both fat and water soluble (so it travels to all parts of the
body) and significantly more effective than any individual ingredient.
Seeds
Various seeds provide anticancer benefits including apricot, apple, black cumin, chia, flax, grape and mustard.
Quercetin
The
red and yellow onions are especially high in Quercetin, a bioflavonoid.
Bioflavonoids are water-soluble compounds present in citrus fruits,
rosehips and other plants. In humans, bio-flavonoids maintain resistance
of capillary walls to permeation and change of pressure, and have
synergistic antioxidant effects with vitamin C.
Quercetin,
besides inactivating cancer-causing agents, inhibits enzymes that spur
cancer growth. It also has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral
and anti-fungal activity.
Quercetin is a powerful
anticancer substance by several mechanisms. It is cytotoxic (kills
cancer cells) by inhibiting the transport of lactate out of anaerobic
cancer cells. This causes the cancer cell to become more acidic and die
(apoptosis.)
Cancers generate consume large amounts of
glucose, starving the body. From this glucose they generate lactic acid
which poisons the body. The liver combats this by converting the lactic
acid back into glucose which feeds the tumor again in a kind of
snowballing effect. Quercetin helps prevent the tumor from releasing
lactate in the first place.
Among other antitumor
effects are: Arrest of cell progression at the G1/S and G2/M interphase,
suppression of glycolysis and ATP production, interference with ion
pump systems, interference with various signal transduction pathways,
and inhibition of DNA polymerase B and I.
It was also
found that Quercetin blocks androgen (male hormone) receptors and in a
study caused a dramatic reduction in two androgen-regulated tumor
markers, including PSA, the marker for prostate cancer. The author, Dr.
Xing said that it could be “a chemopreventive and/or chemotherapeutic
agent for prostate cancer.”
Selenium
Selenium is a trace element that’s been shown to be a very potent anti-carcinogen and anti-mutagen.
Selenium is a vital anti-oxidant which protects the immune system by
preventing the formation of free radicals, which can damage the body. Selenium
and Vitamin E act synergistically to aid in the production of antibodies and to
help maintain a healthy heart. This mineral is also needed for pancreatic
function and tissue elasticity.
Selenium is a proven
cancer-fighter. University of Arizona researcher Larry Clark, M.D.,
conducted a seven-year study involving more than 1,000 older people with
skin cancer. Half of the patients took selenium supplements during the
study, the remaining half took placebos.
Selenium
supplementation was associated with a reduction in cancer incidence of
42%, and also appeared to reduce the risk of dying from cancer in
treated patients. Interestingly, no drop in the incidence of skin cancer
was observed during the study. However, selenium supplementation did
appear to reduce the risk for several other types of cancer
significantly, including colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lung cancer.
Selenium
has two main effects. It enhances the activity of the enzyme, PX GSH,
which strengthens system and it neutralizes free radicals which directly
attack the system. Free radicals are submolecular particles which
contribute to the breakdown of living cells, a process known as
oxidation.
Most of us are familiar with rusting metal.
Rusting is also an oxidation process. Just as exposing metal to moisture
increases the rate at which it rusts, exposure to a range of
environmental toxins and solar radiation increases the rate at which the
cells of human body deteriorate. As a result, our bodies' immune system
functions less efficiently, making us more susceptible to desease.
Immune system impairment has been implicated in a range of malignant
conditions such as cancer. Alone and in combination with other
antioxidants, selenium is essential inclusion in the daily diet.
Research
has found, that selenium is also effective in prevention and treatment
of a number of conditions. It takes part in the synthesis of a coferment
Q-10, which helps to maintain and repair damagesto the heart muscle. It
helps to prevent necrosis by combining with and neutralizing toxic
heavy metals, which otherwise accumulate in and damage the liver. It is
unique in its success in treating psoriasis and allergies.
Combination
of selenium and other nutrients have been found to be very effective in
combating certain deseases. With beta-carotene fat metabolism is
improved, reducing the risk of hypertension and thrombocyte
agglutination, both contributing factors in heart attacks. With vitamin E
and beta-carotene, it has been shown to be especially effective in
strengthening the immune system.
The best source is
seafood as it is fast disappearing from intensively farmed soils. It is
toxic in extremely high doses (2.5-3 g/day); however, normal supplement
levels (200 micro grams/day) are considered perfectly safe. As part of a
cancer treatment diet, 500 micro-grams – 1 mg can be suggested.
A
potent antioxidant, selenium is an integral part of the body natural
antioxidant glutathione peroxidase system and, at times in partnership
with Vitamin E, protects against cancer and prevents lipid peroxidation.
Selenium is an effective detoxifier of heavy metals, its antioxidant
properties protect against environmental and chemical sensitivities, and
its immune functions enhance the body’s antibacterial and antiviral
defenses. Selenium is also a natural anti-inflammatory agent.
Perhaps
the most potent anti-disease effects of selenium are its ability to
prevent and treat cancer. Selenium has prevented and reversed
spontaneous, chemically-induced, and transplanted tumors in a wide
variety of animal studies. Large epidemiological studies have confirmed
the activity of selenium in the field of cancer prevention, and several
clinical trials have produced highly encouraging results.
In
China, a trial of selenium as a means of preventing viral hepatitis B
associated with liver cancer, significantly reduced the incidence of
both these diseases. The addition of very small amounts of selenium to
kitchen salt led to the reduced incidence of several forms of cancer.
Selenium at a dose of several hundred micrograms a day is now being used
as an adjuvant to breast cancer therapy and shows promise as a
treatment for immuno-deficiency diseases.
Some of the
mechanisms suggested for this anti-cancer activity include changes in
prostaglandin synthesis and selenium’s antioxidant and glutathione
peroxidase properties.
Sulfur
Sulfur is an essential element for all life, and is widely used in biochemical processes. In metabolic reactions, sulfur compounds serve as both fuels and respiratory (oxygen-replacing) materials for simple organisms. Sulfur in organic form is present in the vitamins biotin and thiamine, the latter being named for the Greek word for sulfur. Sulfur is an important part of many enzymes and in antioxidant molecules like glutathione and thioredoxin.
Organically bonded sulfur is a component of all proteins, such as the amino acids cysteine and methionine. Since sulfur bonds are required for proteins to maintain their shape, and these bonds determine the biological activity of the proteins, we can see why sulfur is critical for health and life itself. There is no doubt that sulfur helps us battle cancer so it’s a good time to become more familiar with this basic element.
Sulfur is required for the proper structure and biological activity of enzymes. If you don’t have sufficient amounts of sulfur in your body, the enzymes cannot function properly. This can cascade into a number of health problems since, without biologically-active enzymes, your metabolic processes cannot function properly.
Sulfur enables the transport of oxygen across cell membranes. Because sulfur is directly below oxygen in the periodic table, these elements have similar electron configurations. Sulfur forms many compounds that are analogs of oxygen compounds and it has a unique action on body tissues. It decreases the pressure inside the cell. In removing fluids and toxins, sulfur affects the cell membrane. Sulfur is present in all cells and forms sulfate compounds with sodium, potassium, magnesium, and selenium. Organic sulfur, in addition to eliminating heavy metals, regenerates, repairs and rebuilds all the cells in the body.
Note: As a supplement, make certain that you purchase
organic sulfur, e.g. organic MSM.
Turmeric (Curcumin)
Curcumin
is a potent antioxidant extract from the spice turmeric that has a wide
range of health benefits with specific anti-viral, anti-inflammatory,
anti-cancer and cholesterol-lowering effects.
Cancer
researchers are developing agents that induce apoptosis (programmed cell
death) as potent anti-cancer drugs. In common with many of the
nutrients in the Cancer Treatment Protocol such as selenium, vitamin A,
green tea and vitamin D3, curcumin induces cancer cell apoptosis.
In
a wide range of cancer cells, curcumin has been shown to induce cell
shrinkage, chromatin condensation, and DNA fragmentation, and to block
cellular signal transduction. All of these are characteristic of
apoptosis-inducing agents according to an article published in the
journal ‘Nutrition and Cancer’ (USA) (26/1/1996). May be particularly
beneficial for lymphoma.
The spice turmeric may be
added to rice, soups, salad dips, vegetable ‘smoothie’ drinks … If
possible, take curcumin capsules; suggested dose 2 – 4 g (2,000 – 4,000
mg) / day in divided doses with food.
Vitamin A
Vitamin
A (retinol) is a yellow, fat-soluble solid terpene alcohol obtained
from some carotenoids by conversion in the liver where it is stored.
While carotenoids are widely distributed in such foods as green and
yellow vegetables, retinol is not found in any vegetable sources, but is
concentrated in egg yolks and the livers of many animals.
Vitamin
A, either from animal sources or synthesized in our own liver, is
essential for growth and protection from various diseases. Vitamin A and
its analogs have shown the ability to help inhibit cancer cell
proliferation and help in returning to normal growth patterns. Its
inhibitory effects are especially potent against leukemia and certain
head and neck cancers.
Beta-carotene is the most potent
precursor to vitamin A, but its conversion to vitamin A in the body is
limited by a feedback system. Beta-carotene is also an important
antioxidant in its own right.
Vitamin A and related
carotenoid compounds have a sterling role in cancer prevention and are
of crucial importance to health, in their capacities as potent
antioxidants and immune modulators. Despite this, there hasn’t been the
massive public awareness, publicity and sex appeal that has surrounded
other nutrients such as Vitamin C. Advice abounds about eating your
carrots (to see better in the dark) or your greens (for antioxidant and
cancer protection).
Vitamin A deficiencies are
widespread throughout many parts of the developing world, and some
50,000 people go blind each year through lack of Vitamin A.
Good food sources: watercress, spinach, broccoli, orange/yellow vegetables.
Excellent food sources: Cod liver oil, carrots, raw butter.
In
fact, while Vitamin A in excessive levels is toxic, most of us should
be more concerned about obtaining as much of Vitamin A and carotene
anti-oxidant activity in our diet. The medical research community and
the pharmaceutical industry have done extensive clinical research with
Vitamin A and carotene-derived substances, as evidenced by the
publication record in numerous scholarly journals, resulting in numerous
diverse health care products, ranging from acne medication (Retin A) to
anti-cancer compounds.
Fat-soluble Vitamin A compounds
include retinol, retinal and retinoic acid. This vitamin group is vital
to eye and retina function (whence its name retinol is derived),
protects the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, throat and lungs from
damage, and reduces risk of infection (immune enhancer) and cancer. Low
Vitamin A levels are correlated with increased incidence of several
cancers, most notably those of the lung, larynx, esophagus, mouth,
stomach, colon, prostate and cervix. Vitamin A is found in animal and
fish liver, eggs, milk and butter; levels above 20,000 IU per day may be
toxic.
Carotenoids such as beta carotene, sometimes
called pro-vitamin A, are water-soluble precursors which are made into
Vitamin A by the body. While you can overdose on fat-soluble Vitamin A,
large doses of water-soluble beta carotene, found in carrots, broccoli,
spinach, cabbage, orange and yellow fruits, are non-toxic and constitute
an extremely potent source of antioxidant activity.
A
considerable wealth of research data has been accumulated regarding the
efficacy of various Vitamin A/Carotene compounds in prevention,
treatment and adjuvant treatment of cancers (combined with chemotherapy
and/or radiotherapy).
Studies demonstrate that Vitamin A
and carotenoids are of considerable importance to the prevention and
treatment of many diverse cancers in a variety of ways: attack and
destroy cancer cells; prevent the appearance or proliferation of tumors,
and actually reverse precancerous lesions.
The
mechanisms of this anti-cancer activity, still being researched, are
attributed to the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of
Vitamin A and carotenoids. In addition to the above anti-cancer
properties of Vitamin A and carotene lies their potential in
potentiating and mitigating against some of the more toxic effects of
radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Vitamin A has many
beneficial properties: it induces cell differentiation, stimulates
immunity, is antiviral, is an antioxidant, and is needed for the
formation of bone, protein and growth hormone. A daily dose of 5,000 –
10,000 IU is sufficient for the maintenance of epithelial tissue and
eyesight.
Most people with cancer are deficient in
Vitamin A. There exists a direct relationship between Vitamin A levels
and cancer. Vitamin A protects the epithelial tissues and encourages
cell differentiation (maturity). For example, Vitamin A cures and
prevents leukoplakia, a precancerous condition in the mouth. Many, if
not most, cancers arise in the epithelial areas (adenocarcinoma.)
Vitamin
A works with Vitamin D, Vitamin C and Vitamin E to synergize their
protective effects. In one study it was found that this combination
could correct cellular abnormalities in the colon that would eventually
progress to cancer.
Vitamin A and Vitamin D work
together to stimulate the immune cells (macrophages and T cells) to
protect us from internal and external pathogens. These cells contain
protein receptors (VDR, RXR) that trigger binding protein factors that
stimulate our immune cells and protect us diseases such as cancer.
It
is also known that in laboratory animals deficient in Vitamin A, cancer
is easily started but animals high in Vitamin A are nearly impossible
to induce cancer in. The protective effect of Vitamin A is so strong
that researchers found that Norwegian sailors who have smoked since
childhood, had a very low incidence to lung cancer. The reason was
traced to the consumption of fish livers, high in Vitamin A and Vitamin
D.
Dutch researchers found that Vitamin A could not
only slow the growth of a tumor but in some cases cause it to become
benign. Its effect is most powerful on epithelial derived tumors
(especially of the head and neck) leukemia and transitional cell tumors.
Vitamin A analogues have been used successfully in mouth cancer,
leukemia, and pancreatic cancer.
Large doses are
required to achieve a potent anticancer effect, which may be limited by
toxicity. Then it was observed that infants who received large doses of
Vitamin A in breast milk did not suffer toxic effects. The reason is
apparently that when Vitamin A is emulsified (as it is in milk), it is
absorbed into the lymphatic system without going through the liver.
Based upon this Mucos corporation (makers of Wobenzyme N) arrived at the
following dosages of emulsified Vitamin A:
-- 100,000 to 300,000 units per day is a potent immune stimulator
-- 500,000 to 1,000,000 units per day has powerful antitumor effects
Dosages
may be given in divided doses and worked up over time. You can also
alternate with 2 weeks on and 1 week off. Blurred vision and a soapy
feeling in the mouth are signs of too much Vitamin A.
Vitamin
A is also critical to the immune system and is an immune system
stimulant. Its stimulating effects are not simply due to a reversal of a
deficiency state. Vitamin A prevents immune suppression from adrenal
hormones, severe burns or surgery.
Cautions
Do
not use very high doses of Vitamin A without a physician’s supervision!
Signs of toxicity include headache, dizziness, fatigue, emotional
instability, blurred vision, muscle and joint pain, chapped lips and dry
skin. Elevated liver enzymes are another indication of possible
toxicity.
Vitamin E can help to counteract any toxic effects of Vitamin A and should always be taken with it.
Pregnant women and those likely to become pregnant should never take Vitamin A as too much can cause birth defects.
Thyroid cancer patients or those with severe thyroid deficiency should also avoid this product.
Vitamin C (Vitamin C & Bioflavonoids)
Bioflavonoids
are powerful antioxidants found in fruit and vegetables that work
synergistically with vitamin C. Flavonoids can also attach themselves to
proteins, modulating the action of enzymes, including the kinase
enzymes necessary for cell proliferation.
In this way
flavonoids are a very useful compliment to cancer therapy. When high
doses of flavonoids are take, all cell proliferation is inhibited; but
this does not harm normal cells which can simply ‘rest’ – however,
cancer cells cannot survive in the resting state.
Flavonoids
also lower blood sugar levels, can restrict angiogenesis, help to keep
nitric oxide within a healthy range, and raise the body’s level of the
endogenous antioxidant glutathione.
Based on the
research evidence, Vitamin C should by now have achieved medical
respectability both in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Hundreds
of research studies published during the past decade alone attest to the
monumental research effort mobilized to document the role of Vitamin C
in Cancer prevention and treatment.
Numerous books each
replete with hundreds of references, have been published over the
years, documenting the vital role played by Vitamin C in every body
system function. For Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant, immune
modulator, integral to countless metabolic, endocrine and neurological
functions, and an absolute requirement for the synthesis of collagen,
vital for skin, bone, muscle and connective tissue.
Vitamin C’s anti-cancer properties are brought about by a number of modalities of this versatile nutrient:
Scavenges cancer-causing free radicals such as hydrogen peroxide to prevent lipid peroxidation and destruction of cells;
Neutralizes carcinogenic chemicals such as nitrosamine and nitrites;
Regenerates active vitamin E (another potent antioxidant) in lipid membranes;
Enhancement of lymphocyte function and rapid mobilization of phagocytes;
Potent anti-viral and anti-bacterial activity;
Enhancement of IgA, IgG and IgM antibody levels;
Modulation of interferon synthesis;
Increases synthesis of prostaglandin PGE1 (anti-inflammatory); inhibits PGE2 (inflammatory);
Vitamin C (preferably with bioflavanoids) : 2 – 20 g / day, in divided doses, with meals.
Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol)
Vitamin
D is a very important vitamin that has many health benefits. However,
there is a major Vitamin D deficiency due to our lack of exposure to the
sunlight.
Vitamin D appears to be more closely related
to a hormone than a vitamin because of the many cellular functions it
performs. Among its actions is the regulation of cellular proliferation
and differentiation.
Vitamin D works synergistically
with Vitamin A to control cancer by inducing certain cancer cells to
differentiate into normal cells and to stop multiplying uncontrollably.
This effect is so pronounced that drug companies are working on
patentable analogs for cancer therapy.
Among the
cancers that Vitamin D has been shown to be effective against are
colorectal, breast, prostate, ovarian, and several kinds of leukemia and
lymphoma.
Vitamin D and its metabolites are currently
being studied by researchers worldwide for cancer prevention and
treatment. The anticancer mechanisms of Vitamin D are different from the
antioxidant and antimutagenic effects of other nutrients that may
prevent cancer.
Vitamin D induces certain types of
cancer cells to differentiate into normal cells. What does cell
“differentiation” mean? Normal cells go through cell cycle growth
processes that enable them to mature into functional cells
(differentiate), and then naturally die (undergo apoptosis) after so
many cell divisions have occurred. Cancer cells, on the other hand,
often fail to differentiate, which means they divide rapidly without
turning into the kind of specialized cells needed to support the body.
Instead of differentiating into normal functioning cells, cancer cells
divide forever until they overwhelm the host with nonfunctional cancer
cells.
Vitamin D induces cells to differentiate
throughout the body, but its intake must be limited because of its
potential toxicity. Too much vitamin D3 can lead to hypercalcemia (too
much calcium in the blood), which can cause sudden death, or can induce
calcification to accelerate the aging process. Calcification causes
cells to “clog up” and stop functioning. The safest and simplest calcium
channelblocking method is to make sure you have plenty of magnesium in
your bloodstream to inhibit excess calcium infiltration into your cells.
For example, 500mg of magnesium citrate.
Food sources : Cod liver oil, fish (wild salmon, sardines, mackerel), raw dairy products, egg yolk; also: made by the body when exposed to sunlight.
A standard dose for a healthy person would be around 300 IU of vitamin D3 daily.
1,000 IU for up to several months should present no problems for most people.
For
cancer patients, it would be possible to raise this to 3,000 to 4,000
IU of vitamin D3 a day. However, when taking more than 1300 IU of
vitamin D3 daily, periodic blood tests should be done to make sure too
much calcium is not being absorbed and that kidney function is not being
affected. Or, take it with vitamin K2 to prevent calcium from remaining
in the arteries.
Vitamin D3 is most effectively utilized when taken in divided doses with fat-containing, low fiber meals.
Note: Many studies on humans have shown vitamin D is instrumental in reducing the risk of colon and breast cancer and improving the survival rates of lung cancer. The precise mechanism is not known, but most researchers in recent years have become increasingly convinced that few of us get enough vitamin D through sunlight or diet.
Cautions
Anyone
taking more than 1500 IU’s per day should have periodic blood tests
performed to be sure that not too much calcium is being absorbed, and
that kidney and liver function is not adversely affected. It is
recommended to take a magnesium supplement to counter any excessive
calcium absorption. Underlying kidney disease is a contraindication.
High doses should be taken under the supervision of a physician.
Vitamin B17 (Laetrile) and Nitrilosides
Nitriloside
is a general term for anti-cancer compounds found in many plants,
including apricot kernels, apple seeds, grape seeds, grasses, and other
foods. For example, amygdalin is a specific nitriloside found especially
in apricot kernels, and the aforementioned foods.
Normal
body cells convert nitrilosides into food (Vitamin B17) via the enzyme
rhodanese. However, cancer cells via the enzyme beta-glucosidase convert
the nitrilosides into chemicals (benzaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide) that
kill the cancer cells while it only nourishes the normal cells! This is a
target-specific reaction. It does not adversely affect normal cells.
Laetrile
is the trade name for laevo-mandelonitrile-beta-glucuronoside, a
substance synthesized by Ernst T. Krebs, Jr., and registered with the
U.S. Patent Office for the treatment of "disorders of intestinal
fermentation." This compound is chemically related to amygdalin, a
substance found naturally in the pits of apricots and various other
fruits. Most proponents of Laetrile for the treatment of cancer use the
terms "Laetrile" and amygdalin interchangeably.
Apricot
Kernels are the richest source of Vitamin B17 (Laetrile). Apricot
kernels are known to prevent and cure cancer, even though the medical
establishment has worked night and day and even lied to suppress it.
Vitamin
B17 is found in most all fruit seeds such as the apple, peach, cherry,
orange, nectarine and especially apricot. It is found in some beans and
many grasses such as wheat grass.
The hard wooden pit
in the middle of the peach is not supposed to be thrown away. In fact,
the wooden shell is strong armor protecting one of the most important
foods known to man, the seed. It is one of the main courses of food in
cultures such as the Navajo Indians, the Hunzas the Abkhasians and many
more. Did you know that within these tribes there has never been a
reported case of cancer? (And there are doctors and scientists from the
U.S. living within these tribes right now studying this phenomena)
We
don't need to make the seed a main course but we do need the equivalent
of about seven apricots seeds per day to nearly guarantee a cancer free
life. Other foods that contain vitamin B-17 are: bitter almonds,
millet, wheat grass, lima beans and more. (The bitter almond tree was
banned from the U.S. in 1995. The kernel or seed contains the highest
amounts of vitamin B17).
Note 1: Laetrile will
not work without vitamin C to heal and zinc to carry the laetrile to the
cells. For more details, refer to the Vitamin B17 Laetrile Diet
Protocol, designed by Dr. Philip E. Binzel Jr., and documented in his
book, Alive and Well.
Note 2: Although this
protocol is very effective at getting rid of cancer cells, this protocol
does not contain the super-nutrients which deal with reversing the
damage to the non-cancerous cells due to cancer (e.g. lactic acid),
chemotherapy, radiation, etc. So, use this protocol along with a major
protocol (e.g. Cellect-Budwig, Cesium Chloride). Refer to the Cancer
Tutor website for more details.
http://www.cancertutor.com/
Note 3:
Ernst Krebs was the world's leading authority on the relationship
between cancer and nitrilosides, and the inventor of laetrile.
Note 4:
Nitrilosides are comprised of molecules made of sugar, hydrogen
cyanide, a benzene ring or an acetone. These factors are collectively
known as Beta-cyanogenetic glycosides. Though the intact molecule is for
all practical purposes completely non-toxic, nitrilosides can be
hydrolyzed, by an enzyme present in our bodies called beta-glycosidase,
to a sugar, free hydrogen cyanide, benzaldehyde or acetone. Because of
our cultural antipathy to cyanide, western food technology has made
every conceivable effort through processing, hybridizing, distilling,
etc., to remove every trace of derivable cyanide from foods for man and
animals. Although it is literally true to say that nitrilosides contain
cyanide, a deadly poison, it is also true to say that table salt, sodium
chloride, contains the deadly poison, chlorine. Under normal
conditions, the chlorine in salt and the cyanide in nitrilosides is
tightly bound and in no danger of suddenly "leaking out".
Chewing
of cyanogenic foods usually frees or hydrolizes much cyanide by mixing
the resident nitriloside with the splitting enzyme b-glucosidase. That
is why cooking the undisturbed plant tissue is important (neutralizing
the splitting enzyme). By stabilizing the nitriloside in this way the
cyanide is released more selectively at the sites of high b-glucosidase
production, i.e., cancer cells and concentrations of bacterial
infestation.
Note 5: The reason laetrile therapy takes so long to work, in spite of
the marvelous design of the laetrile molecule, is because if the
laetrile molecule happens to chemically react with the enzyme of a
non-cancerous cell (i.e. rhodanese), before it reacts with the enzyme of
a cancerous cell (beta-glucosidase), the rhodanese will break apart the
laetrile molecule in such a way that it can no longer kill a cancer
cell. Thus you have to take enough laetrile molecules, over a long
enough time, that enough laetrile molecules hit the cancer cells first.
Note 6: Nitrilosides
interact with various drugs. For example, nitrilosides may cause
palpitations/slow pulse when used with antiarrhythmic drugs; and,
hypotension with antihypertensives drugs. Nitrilosides also interact
with various supplements and herbs. For example, nitrilosides may cause
severe cyanide poisoning when used in conjunction with megadoses of
Vitamin C (4800 mg). Vitamin C is known to increase conversion of
amygdalin to cyanide in vitro and reduce body stores of cysteine, which
is used to detoxify cyanide.
Therefore, it is very wise
to always consult with your physician and work with a qualified
healthcare practitioner, who is familiar with Vitamin B17.
Wheatgrass (Chlorophyll)
A diet containing a lot of wheat grass juice has been used by many people to cure cancer. One woman’s story is told in the book
How I Conquered Cancer Naturally
by Arnold Hunsberger. She cured breast cancer by drinking 2 ounces of
wheat grass juice one or more times a day. She created the juice by
running wheat grass through a juicer. She grew the wheat grass herself.
The
number of ways that wheatgrass deals with cancer is incredible. First
of all it contains chlorophyll, which has almost the same molecular
structure as hemoglobin. Chlorophyll increases hemoglobin production,
meaning more oxygen gets to the cancer.
Selenium and
laetrile are also in wheatgrass, both are anticancer. Chlorophyll and
selenium also help build the immune system. Furthermore, wheatgrass is
one of the most alkaline foods known to mankind. And the list goes on.
Wheatgrass
contains at least 13 vitamins (several are antioxidants), including
B12, many minerals and trace elements, including selenium, and all 20
amino acids. It also contains the hormone abscisic acid (also called:
dormin, see below), the antioxidant enzyme SOD (Superoxide Dismutase,
see below) and over 30 other enzymes, the antioxidant enzyme cytochrome
oxidase (see below), laetrile, and a whole lot of other nutrients.
SOD
converts one of the most dangerous free radicals: Reactive Oxygen
Species (ROS), into a hydrogen peroxide molecule (which has an extra
oxygen molecule to kill cancer cells) and an oxygen molecule.
Now let’s talk about cytochrome oxidase.
In
1938, the great cancer scientist and researcher Paul Gerhardt Seeger,
M.D., revealed that the true cause of the cancerous degeneration of a
cell results from the destruction of a specific respiratory enzyme,
cytochrome oxidase. In other words, cancer in the cell is caused by
disturbance of oxygen utilization, or cell respiration.
But it may be that chlorophyll is the best part of wheatgrass.
In
a study reported in the journal Mutation Research comparing the
anticancer effect of chlorophyll to beta-carotene, and vitamins A, C and
E, chlorophyll was proven to be a more effective antimutagen than any
of them.
Chlorophyll is so good at dealing with cancer because of the oxygen availability it provides.
Both
chlorophyll (as in wheatgrass juice) and hemoglobin (red blood cells)
are molecularly similar. The only actual difference is that the central
element in chlorophyll is magnesium and in hemoglobin it is iron.
Chlorophyll has the ability to break down poisonous carbon dioxide and
release free oxygen.
One key question about wheatgrass
is how long to wait after cutting it before you consume it? Most people,
taking their cue from Ann Wigmore, say to take it immediately after
cutting and juicing. However, the hormone abscisic acid (ABA) is 40
times more potent 4 hours after cutting the wheatgrass than it is at the
time of cutting. So the question boils down to this: How important is
ABA to treating cancer compared to the other anticancer substances in
wheatgrass?
Before her death, Dr. Virginia
Livingston-Wheeler had a clinic that cured cancer patients. Her vaccine
was based on abscisic acid. This is a quote about her clinic.
“Abscisic
acid is a supplement you will not find in a health food store. Based on
her research, Dr. Livingston-Wheeler determined that abscisic acid
neutralizes the effect of chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone that
protects the fetus from being rejected, and she classed it as her prime
supplement in treating cancer. Livingston-Wheeler discovered that cancer
cells (or the microbes associated with them) produce a substance very
similar to chorionic gonadotropin. Abscisic acid is a close relative of
Vitamin A. In her book, The Conquest of Cancer; Livingston-Wheeler
describes how you can make abscisic acid.”
So what
do you do, eat it immediately or 4 hours after you cut it? Perhaps both.
Perhaps when you cut your wheatgrass and juice it, you drink most of it
immediately and some 4 hours later you drink the rest of it.
This
is important because in some cases wheatgrass juice therapy did not
work as promised. This may be because the patient drank a lot of tap
water with chlorine in it or it may be because abscisic acid is more
important than thought or for some other reason. So, by splitting up the
wheatgrass juice into two sessions, you get the best of both worlds.
The
Wheatgrass Diet [of Ann Wigmore] excludes all meat, dairy products and
cooked foods and emphasizes “live foods” such as uncooked sprouts, raw
vegetables and fruits, nuts and seeds. The Wheatgrass Diet was developed
by Boston resident Ann Wigmore who established the Hippocrates Health
Institute which later was renamed the Ann Wigmore Institute (AWI).”
Researchers discovered that the cancer-treating active ingredient in the wheat grass juice is
abscisic acid (ABA).
ABA is a plant growth hormone that affects embryo development, seed and
bud dormancy, water relations, tolerance of a variety of environmental
stresses, and senescence. Its name comes from "absciscion", the process
by which plants shed their parts (buds, petals, leaves).
ABA
is a naturally occurring compound in plants. It is synthesized
primarily in the leaves. The production of ABA is accentuated by
stresses such as water loss and freezing temperatures. It is believed
that biosynthesis occurs indirectly through the production of
carotenoids. Carotenoids are pigments produced by the chloroplast. ABA
is capable of moving both up and down the stem.
Among
other things, ABA induces gene changes in response to wounding which may
explain an apparent role in pathogen defense. In addition, it is a
growth inhibitor that causes seeds to remain dormant. It may be these
factors that contribute to its affect on cancer tumor cells. Most
likely, its effect on plants is not the same as its effect on cancer
cells.
Other Supplements
There are many
other supplements that can help with cancer including: aloe vera (whole
plant), cayenne, colloidal silver, Colostrum, and mushrooms (Cordyceps,
Maitake, Shiitake).
Are Supplements The Answer for Cancer?
So, are supplements the answer for cancer? Of course not! But they
are an important piece of sound, plant-based nutritional program, that accomplishes the following:
- Builds your immune system. Your immune system is your body's prime defense against cancer.
- Detoxes your liver and cleans your blood, making them hostile to the presence of cancer.
- Alkalize your body's internal terrain. Cancer thrives in an acidic environment.
- Maximize whole food and raw juicing nutritional levels
- Include a full spectrum antioxidant that contains
known anti-carcinogens such as green tea, alpha lipoic acid, selenium,
lycopene, and curcumin. They all work synergistically with red raspberry
ellagitannins – making them that much more effective.
Other Compounds That Are Parts of Cancer Treatment Protocols:
The following are some of the well-known compounds that have been used succesfully to treat many forms of cancer:
- Cesium Chloride
- DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)
- Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)
- Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)
